Does Alternative Arthritis Medicine Provide Relief?
By Paul Courtney
As life proceeds many of us begin to feel the wear and tear on our bodies, our joints may start to stiffen and certain movements become a little painful. It is still possible to live well and to go about our work in a nearly normal manner.
Arthritis is an inherited disorder, and while no permanent cure has of yet been established, people with the disease have lived in relative comfort for long periods of time. Arthritis is a broad term which covers a number of pathologies of the natural immune system, but they all have one thing in common-pain in the joints.
Unfortunately arthritis can take time to diagnose conclusively, resulting in long spells of suffering for victims before a correct diagnosis is made and the real. Is known.
The management of pain is paramount in controlling any form of arthritis. Pain is a subjective and often associated mental distress which in turn aggravates most different kinds of arthritis, sufferers of this disease may experience vicious cycles between mental tension and painful joints. While some people also suffer from progressive deformities of joints, distress from inflammation and internal injury, is more common..
Alternative arthritis medicine can address both these 2 aspects, reducing local inflammation and injury, and promoting mental wellbeing at the same time. Fortunately alternative arthritis medicine can be used in conjunction with modern drugs, however, it is advisable that the doctor responsible for a case be informed and has full and prior information about all forms of treatment.
Alternative Arthritis Medicine Comes In Many Forms
Mostly balms and lotions made from herbal extracts are the most popular forms of alternative arthritis medicine. They act as counter-irritants and can help to drain excess fluid away from swollen joints as well. These products for topical application are generally made from combinations of active herbal ingredients, and can be used safely several times a day. For more lasting effects some of the ingredients are taken internally in the form of tablets, capsules, or syrup. These and other forms of alternative arthritis medicine may also address aspects of mental wellness, helping patients deal with the pressures and stresses with which arthritis can be associated.
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy is an important aspect of alternative arthritis medicine. For example there are a number of postures in Yoga which help to keep the joints supple and others which address aspects of mental calmness and cheerfulness as well such as meditation. Yoga is easy to learn under the tutelage of an experienced instructor if available, and some of the simpler postures can be learnt from books or through video.
Acupuncture, on the other hand, does need expertise, and specialized needles, this provides a highly effective way of managing acute pain,. Acupuncture is designed to correct and improve the flow of enegy through the body thus improving the bodies functionality and ability to repair damage caused.
As they say, prevention is better than a cure and the early adoption of yoga and meditation will help to prevent the onset of arthritis. However, a combination of , physical methods and herbal extracts should be used in tandem for best results from alternative arthritis medicine. .
Pain Relief for Arthritis and lameness in horses?
My little horse is 15 years old next month and has been lame (but working) for some time now. The vet can do nothing he is in need of good Chiropractor but we can’t find one.
He was working really well until last week and he took a backwards step. We ave tried everything for him, you name it we have tried it.
We can’t retire him, hes too intelligent and will get board very easily.
So were looking at alternatives, possibly using pain relief permanently, like bute (which I know is not good in the long run)
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar problem and what they have tried.
He is happy and healthy in himself – lame behind, high up in the hind quarters in the sacroiliac joint from an old bang rolling in a stable a few years back. To add to it, he has bog spavin’s in both hocks and minor arthritis.
I have used a product called EquiGesic XS from Blueridge. It is an anti-inflammatory, analgesic, blood purifier. I feel it is a safe & effective alternative to Bute & aspirin. It is organic, and doesn’t have the harmful side effects that Bute can cause.. I used it for several months on a horse that was very ill and had a lot of swelling. It seemed to really work.
Ice works better than any anti inflammatory for inflammation. Apply ice for 10 min, then off for 10 min, back and forth. Naproxen would be the next thing if you don’t want ice. Exercise is the best treatment for arthritis, as pain gets worse if your muscles are stiff. I would recommend going for walks. Some pools have arthritis programs to do water aerobics that are special for arthritis. There are other meds you can take, such as Celebrex. Hope this helps, God Bless
Any tips for arthritis pain in legs?
My grandmother has been suffering with pain for years. Doctors have did MRIs to rule out blood clots/blockages. They say it’s just arthritis and I’m trying to find alternatives for pain relief. She will try anything!
Woa Woa Woa… No where in the books does it say 60mgs of hydrocodone is the most you can take without becoming addicted!
It appears I got here just in time
Addiction is defined as a craving for, and taking for the recreational purpose, a drug. End of sentence.
I think what is failing here is proper education about opioids. I will attempt to do this now.
In Pain Management we deal with three main things. Addiction, Tolerance and Dependence. Addiction I have already defined for you.
Dependence is a natural process of taking opioids, which means that if you stop them without a proper taper, you will experience withdrawal symptoms. If you experience withdrawal symptoms, does that mean you are addicted? Absolutely not. Tolerance simply means that over time, as a result of the bodys response to opioids, you may need to increase the dosage in order to obtain the same pain relief.
Now, firstly, I would not say that hydrocodone is EXTREMELY addictive. Something like Dilaudid or Actiq certain has a greater potential for abuse.
The behaviors you are describing that your mother is exhibiting is a pain specialists dream come true. Let me pose a scenario to you. If you come in to see me with low back pain and I prescribe you say, Lorcet 7.5/650 (hydrocodone 7.5/ APAP 650) and you come back in a month and tell me all you have gained is being able to lay in bed and not be in pain, I’ve not improved your quality of life. Treating pain is ALL about improving the quality of the patients life. If say, that same patient comes in next month and she tells me that she is now cleaning her house, going grocery shopping once a week and you’ve attented a PTA meeting for the first time in four years; I’m thrilled beyond relief. The medication has done exactly what I wanted it to. IMPROVE FUNCTION
Basically, in summary. Your mother is more than fine. Signs of addiction would include increasing the Norco above her daily prescribed amount, reports of taking it for non pain related issues and sorts of the like. It is wonderful that her mood has improved and that her activity has improved. Please report that to her health care provider when she see’s him/her next time. I’m sure they will be thrilled.
And finally, KUDOS for keeping such a close eye on moms. I went in to medicine so I could help take better care of my mother (although she’s not my patient) and I’ve always thought there is a special place in Heaven for those of us who honor our parents this way.
Does anyone know how to relieve chronic back pain due to inflammation and arthritis?
I have tried OTC arthritis pain meds they don’t offer much relief for me. I have had surgery for herniated disc. My doctor says that there is a lot of inflamation and arthritis in my back. You can’t get Vioxx anymore. Is there an alternative?
How any where did you get this diagnosis? A slipped disc involves the disc material slipping out from between the vertibrea. I would think you would need to be in the hospital if this were true. You would need multiple laminectomies and fusions. Why don’t you start with a doctor (medical) and get a good diagnosis.pp
How much pain medication is to much before it is considered an addiction?
My mom has been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis for years. As she gets older nothing seems to truly relieve the pain. She has tried everything from aspirin to Embrel without much success.
About 6 months ago her doctor prescribed Norco, or the generic Hydrocodone-APAP 10/325. She takes 3 to 4 Norco a day, depending on her arthritis pain, although the prescription allows her to take up to 6 a day. This is the first medication that truly has given her real pain relief in years.
Since she is feeling better, her moods have improved and she also has become more active on a daily basis. My concern is that hydrocodone can be extremely addictive. I guess my question is, actually how much hydrocodone does she have to take before she becomes addicted, or is she on a safe dose? Or, perhaps addiction is a better alternative than the pain of rheumatoid arthritis?
Thanks in advance for your responses!!
slipped discs,13 of them and arthritis in spine,c1-7+t3-8,?
Help!I have tried conventional pain relief, alternative therapies, vitamins, diet etc.Has anyone got any other ideas ,how to slow the degenerative process down, ease the pain?cervical and thoratic region of spine.
Over the counter stuff like, Glucosimin w/ Congointon, Aleve Liquid Gel, Arthritis Creams, and believe it or not Cod Liver Oil Capsules. The capsules are great, she won’t feel relief the first day, but after about a week as long as she takes them everyday from now on she will notice significant relief.
Arthritis pain is very painful, people who have never suffered from it have no idea, I know I didn’t. She may want to talk to her doctor about a mild pain reliever such Tramadol or Davocet U100. Also Naproxen is prescribed alot for arthritis.
Seem that Arthritis flare ups are worse this time of year because of the humidity so if you can keep her in a comfortable atmosphere it will help also.
