Looking For an Alternative Acne Treatment – 6 of the Best Therapeutic Face Cleansers For Treating Acne

By Hannah Clapham

If you are looking for an alternative acne treatment to use instead of those over the counter remedies then how about taking advantage of the gentle healing powers of some of natures finest natural ingredients.

Treating your acne with natural ingredients is always going to be so much better for your skin as they are much less likely to irritate and aggravate than many of the harsh chemicals contained in many of the preparations used to treat acne.

Learning how to make acne reducing facial cleansers and masks at home using natural ingredients is simplicity in itself. All you need to know is what to mix together and how best to use them. Here are some of my favorite recipes for homemade cleansers and facial masks; many of which are ideal for oily or acne-prone skin.

All of these mixtures are extremely gentle and should not cause any irritation to your skin, however as with any product you use you must discontinue their use if you have any adverse reaction at all.

Also, when removing your cleanser, consider rinsing some of these over your kitchen sink rather than the bathroom sink, as some have ingredients that need to go down the garbage disposal! No sense having beautiful acne free skin if your bathroom sink is blocked up.

Simple egg yolk cleanser

Eggs are full of protein, vitamin A, and fatty acids that are very good for the skin. Take one beaten egg and apply it to the face with a cotton ball, or add a bit of vitamin E oil to the beaten egg. Let it dry on the face and sit for about 15 minutes, then just rinse it all off with cool water.

This will keep your skin hydrated and is a great treatment to try once every week.

Honey and oatmeal cleanser

When it comes to home remedies, this mask is probably one of the oldest there’s ever been. All you need to do is simply mix honey and oatmeal in proportion to make a paste and apply to your skin for a good 15 minutes. The excess oils and dirt in your skin are absorbed by the oatmeal while the honey helps to condition and moisturize.

This also makes a great scrub for exfoliating; just apply it to your skin and rub in a very gently circular motion for several minutes, then rinse away.

Oily skin cleanser

Take a quarter of a tomato, peel away the skin and then put it through a strainer to get all the seeds out. Add two tablespoons of plain yogurt, a few slices of mashed cucumber, a quarter cup of oatmeal, two teaspoons of vitamin E oil, and a crushed mint leaf. Mix all these ingredients together, apply to your face and leave on for about ten minutes. Then use a warm damp cloth to remove…Wonderful!

Yogurt and honey cleanser

This is a cleanser has also stood the test of time. Here you need to mix equal parts of room temperature natural yogurt (Note: do not use fat free or low-fat ) with honey that has been warmed enough to become runny (put in the microwave for a minute) and apply to your face; leave the mixture on for 15 minutes and then rinse off with a warm cloth. Just make sure the honey is not too hot before you apply it! Adding a bit more honey than yogurt will increase the moisturizing benefits.

Milk of magnesia cleanser

Milk of magnesia is actually very natural and comes from magnesium, which is an element that naturally absorbs acids and other harmful ingredients in the stomach. However, we have discovered that it makes for a great facial mask and is brilliant for very oily skin. Simply apply a very fine film of it (make sure it’s plain and unflavored) to your face, let it set for 15 minutes, and then rinse off with cold water.

Face cleanser for oily skin – Lemon and strawberry

Oily skin really benefits from the natural astringent properties of Lemons and strawberries. One teaspoon of lemon juice or the juice of one lemon should be combined with the whites of two eggs, a few tablespoons of honey that has been warmed enough to be runny, and a cup of strawberries. Blend or mash the ingredients together and apply to your face, leave to set for ten minutes, and then rinse off with a warm cloth.

Acne reducing masks and cleansers – How to use them

If you have acne and an oily skin you will also usually suffer with a very sensitive skin and even though these masks and cleansers are made from pure natural ingredients they are still very potent and may cause redness, peeling, stinging, and so on.

Therefore, It’s always better to start with a very light application of any mask and leave it on only for a few minutes before gently rinsing away. Be aware of how your face and skin react; if you feel any discomfort, stop using it. But if you seem to be getting some results then you can try leaving it on for a few minutes longer. You might want to consider using a mask only once per week initially, and if you’re pleased with the results then increase the application to say twice per week and then to every other day.

One final thing to remember with your alternative acne treatment, just because a small amount of something works well this doesn’t necessarily mean that more will be better. Stick with mixing the ingredients exactly as directed rather than adding in extra of anything.

Have you been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis? Diabetes mimics some of the same symptoms. Anything that regulates blood sugar. Cactus is a good way. There are other dietary measures as well.

  2. A. S. M says:

Any natural, holistic, herbal or alternative treatments/supplements for rheumatoid arthritis w/diabetes?
For a young (34), athletic man who is also diabetic.

  3. Extreme Dude says:

    Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (Still’s Disease)

Chronic, inflammatory, systemic disease which may cause joint or connective tissue damage & visceral lesions throughout the body characterized by fever, rash, hepato-spleenomegaly & arthritis in children.

It is a persistent inflammatory arthritis (> 6 weeks) that begins before age 16 for which no specific cause can be found.

Homeopathic Treatment for Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis

Homeopathy treats the person as a whole. It means that homeopathic treatment focuses on the patient as a person, as well as his pathological condition. The homeopathic medicines are selected after a full individualizing examination and case-analysis, which includes the medical history of the patient, physical and mental constitution etc. A miasmatic tendency (predisposition/susceptibility) is also often taken into account for the treatment of chronic conditions.

Please visit the following web-site and choose the medicines that are relevant to your symptoms. Homeopathic remedies are perfectly safe even while you are breast-feeding.

What are alternative treatments for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis besides medication?
I have a moderate case of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and have been on pretty strong medications for it since I was 2 years old. I currently have a 3 1/2 month old and am breast feeding so I can not take any medication. I am in a lot of pain but do not want to sacrifice the breast feeding so I am looking for another option. Example: a special diet or anything???

I have been interested in the work of Peter D’Adamo. He is a naturopathic physician. He and his dad have done over 60 years of research concerning the relationship of certain protein substances in the blood (lectins) and their pro and antigenic reaction to food. He has three books concerning this -”Eat Right for Your Type” is the first. Get this book, I have done years of nutritional consulting with many people and have had much success. Arthritis, in some cases is an extreme allergenic reaction to certain foods. For now, avoid anything that has potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, or green pepper and gluten found in wheat and oats. There is much more. I pray you will feel better.

  6. Q&A Queen says:

Two questions: hey I’m saving my points. Rheumatoid arthritis / fiber usage?
A young friend of mine is, I’m fairly sure, suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. No, I’m not diagnosing her myself, he has an upcoming appointment with a rheumatologist. But, in case I’m right…. are there any complementary/alternative treatments she can use?

As for me, I am a type 2 diabetic that is on metaformin. I also take a number of things like chinese herbs to help. My goal is to maintain my medication level or at least not have it increase or jump to insulin as time goes on. One of the things I’m taking is glucommanan which is supposed to keep the blood sugar from spiking after meals. I had been taking regular fiber already for cholesterol. Do I really need to take both fibers as the guy at the store SELLING me the stuff said or can I do without the regular fiber?

Thank you in advance for your answers
Seriously Vot? too “funny”. Sorry you’re going through that. It’s one of my co-workers who is suffering a lot and I thought I’d ask. I hope YOU’RE doing well.

  7. tron2003 says:

What are my alternatives to treating Severe Rheumatoid Arthritis when no medicinal treatments work?
The reason why I ask is because I have been to 3 separate RA specialists over the past 5 years and I have been on Methotrexate, Humira, Embrel, and all other meds that are available, but nothing has helped to relieve the symptoms or slow the progression of this disease. The pain is so great it is unbearable, and I am only 38 years old. The only relief from the pain I get is from painkillers such as Vicodin, Soma and Lortab 10. And I cannot afford these medications because I have no income and no insurance. I have also tried natural alternatives, vitamins, cartilage supplements and other homeopathic treatments, none of which helped either. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? This disease causes your immune system to attack your joints and cartilage, destroying them with each day that passes.

To answer the first question, it entirely depends on what the problem is. There are some nutrients like Glucosamine and Chondroitin that are raw materials the body uses to create new joint tissues, Hyaluronic Acid helps to lubricate the joints, Cherries help to metabolize Uric Acid (a common irritant of the joints), and there are many others that help in other ways. Any of those may help her or she may have some other issues that need other nutrients instead… without knowing the problem, we’d be guessing if we said what would fix it, but there are several nutrients that help different aspects of joint health.

As far as your blood sugar is concerned, Glucomannan has a rather minimal impact on blood sugar and is most commonly used for cholesterol support and/or to fill you up during a meal (so you feel fuller sooner). I’ve heard some bad things about Metformin and other diabetic drugs… especially that they cause weight gain, which can make diabetes worse than the benefit it gives (as weight has a big impact on insulin usage in the body). I’m not sure if you have a doctor that knows about nutrition that you can consult about that, but they may have more information for you on that.
As far as other natural options instead of the Glucomannan, some of the best natural items to help maintain a healthy balance of blood sugar would be Cinnamon, Gymnema Sylvestre, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Mulberry, Vanadium, and/or Chromium. Your best and safest bet would be to check with a doctor to see if any combination of these would be just right or too much, though… blood sugar is one of those sensitive things that too much support can be just as bad if not worse than not enough support. Good luck and I hope I helped!
