Top Ten Ways To Relieve Migraines
By Jill Stark
A migraine headache may make you think that you have come to the end of the world. Nothing seems to make it better, and everything seems to make it worse. Some people have migraine headaches that last for days without relief. If you are prone to migraines, then there are a few tips that you can do to help relieve the pain associated with a migraine headache. While all things will not work for all people, there just may be something that will help you individually. Just as all people are different, all migraines are different also, and something that helps one person, may not necessarily help others. However, there are several methods for instant relief that you can try, and one of them is bound to work for you.
1. First, you should know that migraines are the result of a blood rush to your head. Constricting the blood vessels to slow the rush of blood will often help. Try applying cold compresses to your forehead and the back of your neck to see if the cold helps to slow down the blood, thus slowing down the pain.
2. Another idea is to dip your fingers into ice cold water and apply pressure to your temples. You can try an ice massage, by dipping your fingers into cold water, and simply massaging your temples to help relieve the pain caused from the sudden rush of blood.
3. Everyone knows that migraines are often the result of stress. If you are feeling stressed out, then try changing your scenery. Watch a funny movie, or take a long hot bath. Try to relax and let the stress wash off you.
4. Exercise is also a great pain reliever, specifically aerobic exercise. Exercising will help to regulate the blood flow throughout your body, thus relieving the pressure from the blood rush in your head which caused the migraine to begin with.
5. One sure way to relieve the pain is to engage in sex. While that option may not be suitable for everyone, if you do have the opportunity, then sex is a wonderful way to relieve the blood pressure in your head. Besides, it will take your mind off the pain, and at least give you a few moments of relief.
6. Migraine sufferers know that lights and sound are a migraine headaches worst enemy. If you are suffering with a migraine, then pull your curtains, turn out the lights, and keep all noise to a mute volume. Having just a simple dark, quiet rest will often relieve the pain, and the relaxation may make the migraine dissipate much sooner.
7. Migraine medication that comes over the counter holds one of the most effective ingredients for relieving migraines. Caffeine, although it can trigger a migraine, can also relieve it. Many over the counter medicines that are specifically geared for migraines hold caffeine, so grab a cup of coffee or tea and it should help to alleviate the pain.
8. Take a course in migraine management.
9. Change your scenery. You can try a quick change, like moving from the room that may hold the smell or trigger of your migraine. If you are in the kitchen, try sitting in the bedroom for a spell.
10. If all else fails, you can try a cool water enema. Migraines are sometimes caused by a buildup of toxins in your system. A cool water enema will clean out your system, thus erasing the cause of your pain.
Natural ways to relieve arthritis pain?
My rheumatoid arthritis seems to be a lot worse lately. My diet hasn’t been very good lately, either. I hope just altering my diet will help, but what else can I do to ease the pain?
Ginger tea
Flax seed tea
Goldenrod tea
ways to relieve arthritis pain?
I was diagnosed with JIA, or Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. My doc put me on Naprosyn (Naproxen Sodium), but what are some other ways to relieve any pain from any flares that might break through the medicine? Also, my doctor doesn’t want to keep on my medicine for an extended period of time so as to not harm my liver. What might she put me on next?
I can’t take any time of ibuprofen (advil, motrin) as these may cause excessive bleeding in combination with the Naprosyn.
Heating pad or hot pack, but don’t leave it on all night or you may burn yourself. Also don’t use with capsacin.
Try ‘bridging’- put a pillow between your knees when you sleep on your side, or under your knees if you sleep on your back. It may take some of the pressure off your hip joint.
Also, some of the remedies found at health food stores can help some people tremendously. (I find MSM helpful for my arthritis, either as a lotion or a tablet.)
You’re right- narcotics are not a choice for arthritic pain unless it is chronic and disabling.
And for me, too, they’re not a choice.
And maybe find an MD who specializes in arthritis.
Believe me, if I knew the answer I would tell you. Arthritis is an extremely painful thing. Its pain is beyond description. My suggestion is to have your doctor give you an adequate painkiller for this problem. Now, the doctor may have to try more than one medicine before he custom fits you with the pain reliever that best fits you. I wish you continued success in your efforts. Peace!
Best way to relieve arthritis pain in the hip?
My arthritis in my hip is so painful that it’s difficult to sleep at night. I know I need to lose weight and I’m working on that, but what’s the best way to try to be comfortable in the meantime? My Dr. suggested I take Tylenol 8 Hour Extendtabs at night in addition to the Naprosyn I take twice daily, so I’m trying that tonight. I’m also trying a capsaicin patch. Narcotics and sleeping pills are not an option. Anything else I can do?
What is the best way to relieve arthritis pain?
There are prescribed anti- inflammatory medicines to reduce the inflammation as well as pain medicines and even anti carcinogenic drugs in small doses are prescribed for some cases. As far as home remedies. Heat seams to be of most effect for temporary relief as it widens the blood vessels to the area.
Also depending on the type of arthritis there are different therapies.
Gout for example is better managed by medicines ( colchicine or allopurinol) to reduce uric acid… and gets worst when red meat is in the diet ( has high purines—-uric acid production)
Rhomatoid arthritis is autoimmune and has a series of medicines to take if first line did not work
some bad arthritis can be taken care of by even a joint replacement.
They all vary.
Heat helps with most
Hope that answers you
